The University is situated in Kazan city in Russia. It is the 3rd capital in Russia, the city with over 1000 years history, one of the biggest religious, economic, political, scientific, educational, cultural and sport centers in Russia. Kazan Kremlin is in the list of Unesco World Heritage Site.
The University was founded in 1932 and today Kazan National Research Technical University – KAI named after Tupolev A.N. is a large multi-branch training and research complex, one of the leading university in the field of engineering education.
Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev – KAI offers a variety of fields for technical development, design and scientific research demanded in Russia and the whole world. The University implements large-scale projects in composite materials, laser technologies, industrial robots, new engine development. In this respect the University cooperates with the largest Russian and overseas enterprises such as KAMAZ, IPG Photonics Corporation, Parallels, United Aircraft Corporation, Rostech, Russian Helicopters and so on.
Since 1996 after a forty-year gap the training of foreign students and postgraduates had been resumed at KNRTU-KAI. The students from Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Korea, India, Pakistan, China, Palestine, Libya, Germany and USA have been educated here by now. The university is successfully developing scientific and educational ties with universities of Brazil, Germany, Spain, Chine, Libya, USA, France and other countries.
In 2009 the University participated in the ‘National Research University’ project and won in a competitive selection among top 30 universities of the Russian Federation.
The University offers 200+ certified educational programs: 41 BSc and Engineer-degree programs, 31 MSc, 45 PhD programs and ScD programs.
The University collaborates with 76 overseas partner-universities and admits students from 50 countries.
The University opened the German-Russian Institute for Advanced Technologies in 2014. The Institute was established jointly with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Technical University of Ilmenau and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Its graduates will be conferred two diplomas –KAI’s degree and German Partner University’s degree.
In the structure of the University there are 7 Research Institutes and 1 faculty, 45 Chairs, 48 applied and basic research laboratories, 11 scientific and technical centers, 1 business incubator, 2 colleges of secondary vocational education, 3 university-based research institutes, experimental and pilot production 67 research centers and laboratories, main campus and 7 student’s hostels.
In the structure of the University there is KAI Laser centre, it’s a regional engineering centre of industrial laser technologies, including all necessary laser technologies that helps manufacturing enterprises introducing newest laser technologies (welding, carving, marking, hardening, cutting, weld seam etc) in industrial complexes of enterprises.
The University has engineering center, called KAI composite, that is a center of high aviation technologies, it combines many years constructive, technological, production experience and mastery of scientists and university stuff. The center is made on the basis of 75 years fields laboratory. The center has modern testing equipment. The laboratory has aviation license that allows to realize certified examination and testing of materials, technics and construction in the field of aviation and space.
German-Russian Institute of Advanced Technologies (GRIAT) – is the newest Institute in the structure of the University, that realizes educational programs of Master’s degree and PhD. This project prepares prominent figures in engineering education. GRIAT Institute is situated in a new building in University campus and has modern research and academic infrastructure. The graduates of GRIAT Institute get double degrees: one from Kai University and anpother one from University-partner in Germany.
In 2013 the campus of the University set up a new sport complex Olympia with a total area of 4200 sk.m., a universal sport arena with swimming pool, sport and training halls, of 7200 sk.m., a stadium with 1500 seats. And in 2018 sport grounds of Kai University will meet FIFA WorldCup. Sport club Olympia offers different sport activities to the students. 29 sport sections houses 1250 students who are keen on sport. Olympia sport club was the main venue for water polo, football, basketball and athletics at summer Universiade, held in Kazan city in 2013. This complex received around 20 national teams and in 2013 won the prize of Tatarstan Republic “Student of the year 2013”.
Kai basketball team is 7 times winner of School Olympics held among the universities in Tatrstan Republic and in 2013 was Bronze medalist at International students league held in Tallinn Europe.
Its football team was 3 times winner at students league in Tatarstan and in 2011 was the winner at National Students sport cup of Russia.
The students of Kai University were in the national team at the Universiade in 2013 and and became silver medalists in waterpolo.
The students win prized not only in sport competition but in scientific (national and international) ones.
Kai University is working on campus extension and is putting up 5 building for research and laboratory departments with a total area of 150 000 sk.m.
All foreign student get places at comfortable student’s hostels.
