The University starts its history from 1924. Today Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov is one of the leading scientific, educational, information, social and cultural centers of the region.

Nowadays the University trains over 15 000 students, including international students from 37 countries. Over 2000 students graduate from the University annually. In its equipment the University takes leading positions in the district.

All students have interesting student life with a big range of leisure activities. International students take part in all conferences, festivals and concerts with pleasure. At the university, the annual holding of the festival of national cultures «Friendship of Peoples» has become a tradition. Students of all foreign nationalities of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University take part in the festival.
