Oryol State University named after Turgenev is the first key-role university in Russia. It is a unique regional multidisciplinary center, realizing educational trainings in technical, economic, engineering, medical and other fields of studies at all educational levels. The university is situated in Oryol city, founded in 1566 and situated in the European part of the Russian Federation near Moscow.

Nowadays the university trains high-qualified specialists in over 300 educational programs.

Today teaching staff of Oryol State University numbers 1000 professors, including 940 DSc, the university houses over 19 000 students from 55 countries, every year around 4000 students graduate from the university and almost third of them graduate with honours.

Students of Oryol State University are winners of regional, Russian, national and international academic competitions, they take part in international conferences. The University holds many international seminars, conferences and other educational and academic events

Today OSU (Oryol State University) is a member of Association of the Classical Universities of Russia and consists of 12 institutes, 13 departments and 3 branches.

The University provides all conditions to get prestigious modern higher education, the University possesses 16 academic buildings, 9 dormitories, lecture halls with modern projection and multimedia equipment, medical and technical laboratories, nanotechnology and nanomaterial laboratories, astronomical observatory, agro-biological center, university clinics and medical centers, simulator complexes, gyms and sport grounds, conference halls, swimming pool, rink and leisure center.

The University realizes an effective scientific and research activity in 16 main scientific fields.

The university comprises 10 large research departments and over 80 research laboratories

On the basis of most significant researches the University has formed 53 scientific schools, famous not only in Russia, but abroad. Researches in the field of nanotechnologies and nano-materials, software engineering, hydrosphere time-lapse technology, bioengineering and biomedical technologies are in the limelight today.
