The University consists of 11 educational Institutes:
-Institute of Medicine;
-Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies;
-Institute of Foreign Languages;
-Institute of Mathematics and IT;
-Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences;
-Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences;
-Institute of Education and Psychology;
-Institute of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism;
-Institute of Philology;
-Institute of Economics and Law;
-Institute of Physics and Technology.
The university has 69 chairs, foundation course for international students, 288 educational programs in technical, engineering, medical and humanities fields of studies.
The University campus includes 12 academic buildings, 10 students hostels, scientific library a publishing house, a swimming pool and a Botanic garden, health centers and other buildings.
The University has its innovative technology park “Techograd” that work on design of software engineering, researches, elaboration of IT in applied sciences.
Innovation campus of Petrozavodsk University houses 40 research, academic and innovation centers, 17 modern joint laboratories and departments with Kerelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Enterprises of Karelia, IT park of the University, Engineering Center, Student’s Business Incubator, 12 innovation and technology centers, 32 small innovative enterprises, established by the university, 3 technology areas at the premises of the enterprises of the Republic of Karelia.
The Botanic Garden of Petrozavodsk State University, located on the slopes of the relic volcano on the Onega lakeshore, is well – known in Russia and abroad for its innovations in the field of IT. The garden occupies the area of 367 ha, and has a collection of 1500 species and cultivars of plants.
PetrSU has 10 comfortable dormitories for its students with well-equipped sports facilities, study rooms and lounges. All buildings have modern fire safety systems, alarms and access control installed. Remodelling and maintenance has been carried out, and washing machines and electric plates have been installed.The rooms have Internet access. All the buildings are easily accessible by transport. In the near future, a network of bicycle paths will connect the academic and residential buildings of PetrSU.
The University offers a good range of modern equipment for sport activities, like skiing, basketball, volleyball, sambo, foorball, athletics, tourism, sport orienteering, swimming, hiking and others.
The University also has sanatorium and recreation facilities.
The university has the academic Choir and folk music group “Toive”, widely known not only in Russia, but abroad. The University hosts several drama groups.
