Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University (SPbETU) "LETI", situated in historical center of Saint-Petersburg city (Russia), founded in 1886 was the first higher educational institution of electrical engineering in Europe.
Since its foundation all classrooms, scientific laboratories, conference halls, gyms, libraries and student canteens were created by famous architects.
Today being the leader in the field of development of radioelectronics, information and telecommunication, management information systems and technologies, in sphere of environmental protection and life support, Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University is one of the best technical universities in Russia. The University is fast developing innovative Higher Educational Institution with deep integration of scientific and educational activities. "LETI" was one of the first Universities established business incubator, now dozens of small innovative enterprises work here.
The Chronicle of the oldest University in Europe includes many distinguished figures in science and researches, key personalities in Russian and world science. The names of many graduates, professors, scientists, inventors and other eminent personalities are tightly linked with the history of the university. Among them is world known inventor of radio communication Popov A., inventor of electrical carbon-filament lamp Lodygin A., creator of induction motor of commuted current Dolivo Dobrovolsky and others.
For a long time Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI” has been collaborating in the field of education, scientific and technical cooperation with universities, research institutions and research centers, enterprises and companies from 35 countries, among them Austria, Germany, France, Great Britain, USA, Canada, Italy, Greece, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, RSA, Japan, South Korea and others. Over 50 enterprises of hi-tech industry are strategic LETI’s partners. Among foreign ETU’s partners are 19 large manufacturing enterprises, 10 scientific research centers and institutions, 65 universities from 23 countries.
Today more than 9000 students, candidates and listeners are studying at "LETI". The University staff includes 5 correspondent members of Russian Academy of science, 20 laureates of national and international Prizes, more than 200 professors and PhDs. Every year the University graduates about 2000 students in main academic programs.
Educational Programs.
7 faculties prepare Bachelors (in 21 educational programs), Masters (in 54 educational programs) and Specialists (2 specialties). There are 42 scientific Post Graduate programs. There are 9 Dissertation committees in 23 scientific fields at "LETI". There are 8 teacher research schools and two of them have a status of leading scientific schools in Russia. Every year over 80 post graduate candidates graduate from the University.
Education is conducted in Russian and English mediums. There is Foundation program for foreign students who don’t know Russian language and are going to continue education in Russian medium. The course duration is 1 academic year.
The University Structure
Scientific Research and innovative complex of "LETI" University includes a number of scientific research laboratories, 7 departments, Technopark, 8 scientific centers, 5 scientific research institutes. The University Technoprk offers business-services to 40 small innovative enterprises. Every year more than 300 students and professors work in small companies of Technopark.
There is a big library with a rich collection of scientific literature and free access to digital resources. Students listen to lectures in big audiences and attend classes in modern laboratory complexes. The University campus includes Memorial Museum of physic professor, radio inventor Alexander Popov. The original interior of the great scientist’s apartment is saved in one of its halls in “Professor House”. Museum complex includes Memorial Museum of Alexander Popov, Museum of ETU history and Gallery of eminent scientists. The University has its own publishing house and newspaper “Electrik”.
The campus includes also a student canteen chain that is the biggest one among all universities of the city. Every year the big University stage meets different events while sport competitions are led in a well-equipped Sport Center.
All foreign students are provided with a room in Student’s hostel, medical insurance and reduced fare transport tickets in Saint-Petersburg, legal and other services.
7 Student’s hostels are situated near the University and not far from the underground. Cozy rooms, kitchens, gyms, lounge, study space have all necessary facilities for comfortable and safe living. All hostels have Security that is responsible for public tranquility. In the hostels students may find table tennis, billiard and different fitness equipment. Every year the University organizes Spartakiad among hostel teams in 10 sports (volley-ball, basketball, arm wrestling, powerlifting, swimming, darts, chess, football, cheerleading and Table tennis).
