State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPSUACE) in Saint-Petersburg (Russia) is the oldest Russian State Higher Education Establishment in the sphere of architecture and civil engineering. Its history starts from 1832 and is closely connected with history of architecture and civil engineering in Russia and especially in Saint-Petersburg. At the turn of the XXth century the Institute became the biggest Higher Education Establishment in Russia training specialists in architecture and civil engineering. Today it is recognized as the center of engineering idea and civil engineering science.
During its long history the University has prepared more than 70 000 specialists, between them more than 2 000 foreign citizens from more than 50 countries. The University professors and graduates made a great contribution to architecture developing in Russia and in other countries. Many accommodation and municipal buildings, different kind of constructions and big projects in Russia and abroad were created by their work and talent. Being respectable representatives of Alma Mater, the SPSUACE graduates work in the biggest project and development companies and research institutes.
Today Saint - Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering is a big educational and scientific center, providing a complex training of specialists in engineering, architecture, transport and environmental engineering. Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering has long-standing professional and pedagogic traditions and constantly updates technologies, areas and methodology of scientific researches.
Educational Programs.
Nowadays more than 10 000 students are studying at the University. More than 600 professors, 400 of them have academic titles, 1 member of Russian Academy of Architecture and civil engineering science, 5 corresponding members and 7 University councilors are involved in training process. Today the University includes 8 faculties (51 departments), that offer a large number of courses for different degrees (bachelor, master and specialist degree). The University offers Foundation program for foreign students who don’t know Russian language and are going to continue education in Russian medium. The course duration is 1 academic year.
University Structure
Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering consists of a complex of buildings including 16 laboratories and training bodies (built in the period 1834-1982). All educational activities are organized at universities own platforms. Enterprise’s facilities and resources are also used for some kind of trainings. University has all necessary classrooms and educational facilities, well equipped training and research laboratories, uses modern licensed computer information technology equipment in educational process, research, innovative and management activities, offers high-quality audiovisual and technical training resources. The University disposes exhibition halls, lithographic room, sculpture hall as well as 3 well equipped gyms, student canteen, lunchroom, student’s hostels, camp and medical center.
Training process is realized in 165 classrooms, among them there are 25 lecture halls, 16 architecture halls, 59 laboratories and 69 classrooms for practical trainings and seminars.
For foreign students Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering has hostels, situated near historical center of Saint-Petersburg on the Fontanka river Embankment. All hostels have access to the Internet and cable TV. Every building is completed with video surveillance system and security. For students’ leisure activity in the hostel there is a student club where students may attend photo studio, dance school, theatre school, student chorus and vocal studio. Every year the University meets a great variety of events, including different kind of University competitions.
Library stock numbers more than 920 000 volumes and the collection is growing with new scientific, study materials and methodical literature. The University library is one of the oldest and biggest archives of architecture and civil engineering literature. Museum of University History and Museum of history of Saint-Petersburg’s brick form a part of University.
Sports center offers students auto racing, shooting sports, box, sport games as basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, gymnastics (aerobics, callisthenic, artistic gymnastic and body-building), wrestling (sambo, combat sambo, judo, free-style wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, tae kwon do, kickboxing), sport tourism, powerlifting, polyathlon (summer and winter multisport competition), athletic, chess and checks. Students’ health is cared by a University medical center.
