State Institute of Technology in Saint-Petersburg (Russia) was founded in 1828 during the first years of the reign of Emperor Nicholas I, and later in 1896, the Institute was named after him. Today it is one of the most prestigious universities in Russia in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology, engineering, information technology, management and economics. Russia's leading university is a modern training center of higher education.
Today, Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University) presents new cutting-edge materials for modern branches of science and technologies in the following fields: Rocket-and-Space Technology, Information Technology, Materials Science, Functional Materials, Medicine, Healthcare, Life Sustenance of Human Beings and Environment;
composite, pyrotechnical, high-temperature, SAA Surface Active Agents, reparative, paints and lacquers, adhesive, carbon, biological, medicinal, superconducting, optoelectronic and nanomaterials; Software Products, Command Facilities, machines and devices of complex chemical-engineering systems.
The Institute is proud for its scientists like Mendeleev D.M., the author of periodic law and periodic table of elements, Beilstein F.F., the world-famous Handbook on Organic Chemistry author, Shuliachenko A.R., the Russian cement industry founder, Vyshnegradsky I.A., the author of automatic control theory, Rosing B.L., the electronic television originator and many others.
Many famous scientists have graduated from Institute: the aeromobile and aerosleigh creators Maxarev Y. and Kuznetsov B., one of the American Television founders Zvorykin V.K., a herald of the new metallurgy and metallography school Tchernov D.K., the first laureate of the Russian Ludwig Nobel prize Stepanov A.I., the Soviet dye-making and dye-using industries founder Porai-Koshitz A.E., the physics national school creator Yoffe A.F., the high-frequency industrial electronics creator Vologdin V.P.
Nowadays scientific university research includes elaboration and implementation of innovative technologies for aerospace engineering, IT, chemistry of functional materials, medicine and health care maintaining, energy conservation and clean-tech clusters, biofuel, human life support and ecology, tertiary treatment.
Scientists of the Institute are engaged into work on study of chemical properties of the newest materials: composite, pyrotechnic, hyperthermal, energysaturated, reconstructive, coatings, adhesive, carboniferous, surfactant non-ionic surfactants, bioactive substances, medical products as well as superconductors, optoelectronic and nanomaterials.
Being one of the oldest and leading Russian technology universities, Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University) has a long history of international cooperation. From the very beginning, the institute invited outstanding foreign scientists, many of them continued their research work within the Institute and founded large scientific schools, made great discoveries. Annually, outstanding scientists from various countries like Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, the USA, China, Korea and others become honorable doctors of Technical University.
Educational Programs.
The Institute trains Bachelors in 18 specialties, Masters in 13 specialties, engineers in 31 specialties and PhD in 11 programs. The courses are taught in Russian language. For foreign students, who do not know Russian language the foundation course is available. The duration of the Foundation course is 1 academic year.
University Structure.
Over 5 000 students, including foreign students study at the university in 59 specialized departments and 6 faculties. Today at the Institute there are 28 academicians and corresponding members of Russian and International Academies of Sciences, 10 winners of State awards and awards of the Council of Ministers, 12 honored workers of science and engineering, 125 professors and Dr. Sc., 560 associate professors and Ph.Ds
The fundamental library of the Institute contains over 1 million books, including rare editions. There are 4 reading rooms in a Library building. Internet room provides free access to the global information network, allowing users refer to electronic libraries and databases.
The museum of University History counts over 11 thousand depository items.
Students’ life at the Institute is very interesting. Annually Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Technology organizes and holds sport events, scientific conferences, meetings, excursions, festivals and concerts dedicated to various events of Saint-Petersburg and Institute itself. Big attention is paid to physical education of students. There are different spot clubs, like aerobics, basketball, tennis, football, hand wrestling, athletics etc. The Academic choir functions successfully in the Institute. Intellectual club is very popular among students.
All foreign students are provided with places in comfortable students’ hostels.
