The education system in the Russian Federation

System of Education in Russia.

 

Modern system of education in Russia may offer foreign students some levels of education:

 

1. Non-university level. Secondary vocational education (the duration of a course is about 2 – 4 years, depending on a chosen program).

School leavers may get secondary vocational education at a technical school or a college that may function as an individual institute or make a part of a University.

Upon successful completion of education graduates may start their professional career or continue education at a University.

 

2. Higher Education. University level.

Depending on a current level of education prospective students may apply to University for getting a degree:

  • Bachelor Degree (course duration – 4 years).

To apply to Bachelor degree programs prospective students must have a complete Higher Secondary School Certificate. 

Bachelor degree programs comprise all field of knowledge except medical one.  Upon successful completion of education graduates get Bachelor degree, that allows them to continue education in Master degree programs or to start their professional career.

  • Specialist Degree (course duration – 5 years).

To apply to Bachelor degree programs prospective students must have a complete Higher Secondary School Certificate. 

Upon successful completion of education graduates get Specialist degree, that allows them to continue education in Master degree programs/ PhD programs or to start their professional career.

  • Master Degree (course duration – 2 years).

To apply to Master degree programs prospective students must have a Higher Education degree (with course duration 4 – 5 years)

Upon successful completion of education graduates get Master degree, that allows them to continue education in PhD programs or to start their professional career.

 

3. Postgraduate Education  (course duration is about 3 years. The duration of a course depends on a chosen program).

To apply to Postgraduate programs an applicant should have a Higher Education degree (Master degree or Specialist degree). Postgraduate education - it is a scientific and research activities that allow to get a Postgraduate Degree.

 

System of Medical Education In Russia.

Training of medical specialists with secondary vocational education is realized at medical schools and colleges (of non-university level). The main fields of study are general medicine, midwifery, nursing, sanitation and epidemiology, hygiene, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, optical eye care, medical technology and equipment. Course duration, depending on a chosen program,  is 2-4 years. Upon successful completion of education graduates may start their professional career or continue their education at a University level to upgrade qualification and to get a degree.

 

Nominally medical education of University level may be divided into 2 levels: general medical education with course duration 5 – 6 years and professional postgraduate medical education with course duration 1 – 4 years (includes internship and clinical residency).

Dentistry (course duration – 5years)

Pharmacy (course duration – 5 years)

Upon getting the degree graduates continue their  education in internship (course duration – 1 year) or clinical residency (course duration – 2-3 years).
